A female leopard shark has had three babies without her eggs being fertalised, giving the virgin Mary a run for her money.

According to reports she laid eggs without a father and three of them have hatched.

The shark is a breeder for Reef HQ Great Barrier Reef Aquarium in Townsville in Queensland.

Scientists are excited, as virgin birth babies have never been seen reproducing before.

The shark pups have already been named Cleo, CC and Gemini.
