Australia have suffered a blow with their two biggest ballcarriers Will Skelton and Wycliff Palu ruled out of the tournament with injuries.

Skelton will be replaced with Sam Carter and Palu by James Hanson.  Thirty three year old Palu has effectively ended his 57 – test international career as he won’t qualify for the Wallabies under the ARU’s 60 test minimum rule.

Skelton exited the game against Uruguay with an injured arm. Medical tests later revealed that he won’t be able to play again in this year’s tournament.

Carter is on his way to the UK from France, he will be ready for Sunday morning’s match against England at Twickenham.
The Australia coach Michael Cheika told Australian Rugby “Both James and Sam have been part of the team at various stages this season and I am confident they will be able to step up and grasp the opportunity they have been given.”
