A New Zealand monarchist group is so excited by the impending birth of of Princess Katherine and Prince William’s royal baby they plan to light up more than of the country’s favourite landmarks on his or her arrival.

Monarchy New Zealand has said it will back the illumination of monuments including Sky Tower and the Cloud in Auckland the day after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby’s arrival, which is said to be on Saturday.

The landmarks will be lit up in pink or blue, depending on whether it’s a boy or a girl. Other places to be brightened up include the Victoria Canopy Bridge, Dunedin Town Hall, Larnach Castle, Otago Settlers Museum and the Wall St Mall.

MNZ chairman Sean Palmer told it’s all about involving the whole country in the celebration. "Towns and cities across the nation are contributing to a larger celebration,” he said.

"There are towers and town halls, airports and bridges, fountains and sculptures. Even the iconic, giant, metal sheepdog in Tirau will be sporting a colourful coat."
