Usain Bolt will line up for his first competitive 200m when he takes part in the Diamond League meeting in Oslo tonight.

But the world's fastest man was instead keen to discuss his plans for life after athletics, which include a stint playing professional football – for Manchester United, no less.

"I want to try soccer after I retire because I've watched football for years and I think I could be a good contender," said the 24-year-old, who started supporting United after watching them on television as a child in Jamaica.

"I am really looking forward to it. I definitely think I am good enough to play for Manchester United because I am quick and have some skills. I have to refine it a little bit but I should be good enough."

However, with the World Athletics Championships in Daegu in August the focus for Bolt now is trying to recover his form after a back injury ruined his 2010 on the track.

He has had an average start to his outdoor season with a couple of unconvincing performances over 100m. His management team insist the back issue has cleared but his two 9.91sec displays in Rome and Ostrava would suggest he is not running with complete confidence in his body. "I'm just trying to get back to the old Usain Bolt," he said.
