A Heathrow baggage handler was arrested for alleged connections to a terrorist plot to bomb a British Airways flight.

However, Shahzada Khan claims that he was dismissed for religious reasons – but has yet to testify at the hearing.

A Reading tribunal is investigating a complicated plot to bomb a flight to the United States from Europe’s busiest airport. Khan is alleged to have connections to convicted terrorist Rajib Karim, with evidence that money had changed hands between them.

Videos of infamous hate preacher Anwar al-Awlaki were found on Khan’s computer when his home was raided by the police. Karim is said to have exchanged encrypted emails with al-Awlaki – investigators believe that the final part of the plot involved using Khan’s security pass at Heathrow to plant an explosive device on a commercial flight.

“While there was no actual evidence of Khan being involved in any terrorist plots I considered it far too much of a risk to British Airways to keep him in the business,” Kahn’s manager Sara Edwards said.

The court case continues.
