The photo, taking during a trip to the University of Alabama Birmingham's biology department, caused outrage after it went viral.

Smiling broadly, the unnamed Clements High School student beams next to the corpse. In the background, an unknown person can be seeing lifting a sheet to cover the cadaver.

The student posted the photo to Instagram but she deleted it after a short while, however, someone in her class took a screenshot - and reported her to school officials.

As reported in the Daily Mail, the University of Alabama Birmingham is disappointed with the girl's behaviour - especially since she had been made aware that mobile phones were banned and human remains were to be treated with respect.

"This kind of disrespect is unacceptable and very disappointing," said a university spokesman. "We will review our processes to ensure this does not happen again."

It is not known whether the student has been suspended from school for her actions.
