It’s something we’ve all suspected, but now there’s proof that people don’t just use the internet to post their dull holiday photos or check facts on Wikipedia. Instead, thirty per cent of all web traffic comes from porn.

According to a report by extremetech.com, Xvideos is the most viewed porn site with 4.4 billion page views and 350 million unique visitors each month. To put it in perspective, that’s three times the amount that CNN.com receives. In fact it’s only beaten by internet giants like Google and Facebook.

The report used Google’s DoubleClick Ad Planner and information from the website YouPorn to estimate how much data is transferred from the servers of porn websites.

According to ExtremeTech around 29 petabytes of pornography, the equivalent of 10 dual-layer DVDs, is transferred per second.

The report concluded that pornography accounts for a whopping 30 per cent of all internet traffic, leading ExtremeTech to claim that any person "in possession of a fast internet connection must be in want of some porn."
