A video showing a crow 'skiing' down a snowy roof on the lid of a jar has been racking up hits on Youtube as viewers wonder at the bird's thrill-seeking behaviour.

The clip is filmed from a nearby roof and captures a bird apparently playing in the snow in a way familiar to humans.

Finding a snowy patch, the bird repeatedly slides down the roof on its lid, working out that some parts of the roof are better than other for the game.

Finally, the crow flies off with its toy.

Crows, and other birds from the Corvus family - that includes ravens, rook, magpies and jays - are considered to be amoung the world's most intelligent animals.

Recent research has found some crow species capable not only of tool use but of tool construction as well. Crows have also been observed to play tricks on each other and to communicate using specific 'dialects'.

In the video below, a crow uses a  series of tools to complete a task, something that even the highly intelligent great apes cannot do.
