British backpacker Sam Woodhead who was thought lost in the Australian outback has been found alive and well.

Woodhead had gone missing for three days from a cattle ranch in Queensland on Tuesday, but turned up three days later.

“We have been told that they have found Sam!!” Woodhead;’s sister wrote on Facebook as news filtered back home to his family.

“We have not information on his condition or where he was found yet, so keep your fingers crossed.”

He is said to be a little sunburned but is hydrated and well.

The 18-year old is understood to have gone out for a run but failed to return home at which point the authorities were notified.

A search was carried out by land and air. He is being returned to Upshot Station where he had been working before being transferred to a local hospital to be checked.
