The search is on for several hundred tourists after Mount Barujari on Lombok island erupted.
More than 1,100 people have been evacuated, according to the disaster agency.
The volcano erupted on Tuesday afternoon, grounding flights between Lombak Bali and Australia.
The ash cloud reached 2,000 meters in height.
So far no injuries have been reported.
The area is located within the ring of fire and prone to eruptions.
