The nominees for the 2013 Academy Awards have been revealed in Los Angeles.
Lincoln, yet to be released in the UK, heads the nominations for this year’s Oscars with 12 nominations.
The historical drama film, starring Daniel Day Lewis, is pitted against the likes of Argo, Life of Pi and Zero Dark Thirty.
Aussies Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts and Jacki Weaver were all nominated, but Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban and Russell Crowe were all snubbed.
Jackman, for Les Miserables, will compete for the best actor Oscar against Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln), Denzel Washington (Flight), Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) and Joaquin Phoenix (The Master).
The best actress Oscar will be between Watts, for her portrayal of a tsunami survivor in The Impossible, Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook), Emmanuelle Riva (Amour) and Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild).
Weaver was a surprise nomination in the supporting category for Silver Linings Playbook.
The nominees were announced by Seth Macfarlane, who created Family Guy, and Emma Stone at Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
It has already been announced that the star-studded Oscars ceremony, which will be hosted by MacFarlane, will feature a tribute to 50 years of the James Bond movie franchise.
The ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre on 24 February.
The Bafta nominations were announced on Wednesday with Lincoln leading the way in 10 categories.
