Footage of a wedding in the Maldives has sparked outrage after it appeared that the ‘minister’ abused and ridiculed the couple in his native Dhivehi tongue.

The ceremony took place at a luxury Maldives resort where the unidentified couple plumbed for an “exotic” wedding ceremony in a language they couldn’t understand. What they weren’t expecting was to be called “infidel swine” by the man holding the service.

In the Youtube video, an employee of the Maldives resort named Hussein Didi conducts a service as a 'celebrant' - a person who is empowered to perform a religious ceremony.

Both Didi and other members of staff can be heard unleashing a torrent of abuse on the unsuspecting couple who sit blithely sipping their flowery drinks.

"Fornication has been legalised according to Article six, 1.11 of the Penal Code. That is, frequent fornication by homosexuals. Most fornication is by males,” Didi says, according to the Daily Mail.

“You are swine. The children that you bear from this marriage will all be bastard swine.

"Your marriage is not a valid one. You are not the kind of people who can have a valid marriage.

"One of you is an infidel. The other too is an infidel and, we have reason to believe, an atheist who does not even believe in an infidel religion."

Apparently, the official looking document Didi is reading from does not, in fact, bear any relation to marriage and is about employment regulations.

In the second part of the service, as the couple plant a coconut tree together, a man can be hard saying: “Can see her breasts!”

“My beard has gone grey watching those things… I have seen so many of them now that I don’t even want to look any more when I see them.”

A police investigation has been launched into the incident and the employees have been sacked and evicted from the resort altogether. In a statement the management expressed its “deep concern and regret”.
