Overview: A couple of blocks from Cusco’s central Plaza De Armas, Milhouse is one of the newest hostels in the Machu Picchu gateway city, and already one of the best.

Created from a partnership between Inca Trail tour specialists Bamba Experience and legendary Buenos Aires party hostel Milhouse, the Cusco pad is set within a beautifully restored old colonial mansion.

Wow factor The moment you walk in off the bustling Peruvian street and into the historic courtyard, tarted up with funky modern touches, it’s clear the hostel is a cut above. There’s a lively bar and social scene for the party animals, but also plenty of space to escape.

Rooms Spacious and clean, with most rooms having en suite. Cage lockers near power sockets (so stuff can be securely left charging) and privacy headboards by dorm beds, are examples of the excellent design touches that show this crew know (and actually provide) what budget travellers want and need.

Bill please Dorm beds cost from £6.50pn, doubles £30pn.
