Edinburgh’s Hogmanay kicked off 2013 with a bang that resonated around the globe as bloggers and travellers alike got their first taste of a Hogmanay New Year which carried one message: Be Lucky.
Twenty-one influential travel bloggers scanning as far as Malaysia, Australia, America and Europe flocked to the Scottish capital with some of the UK’s best travel bloggers as Edinburgh’s Hogmanay teamed up with partners Event Scotland, Visit Scotland, Edinburgh Tourist Action Group, Festivals Edinburgh, Haggis Adventure and Skyscanner to host the band of bloggers.
The rest of the world were invited to follow their exploits and join in with the festivities through Edinburgh’s Hogmanay blog, Blogmanay, a collection of whose best snaps are gathered here.
The Scottish festival opened with thousands of people setting the streets of Edinburgh aglow in the torchlight procession on Sunday December 30 followed by the world famous street party on New Year’s Eve.
Revellers danced the night away to DJ’s and the best in live music from Simple Minds, The View, The Maccabees and Reverand and the Makers.
Princes Street was turned into the world’s largest dance floor and culminated in the Midnight Fireworks from Edinburgh Castle, which lit up the sky as 80,000 people joined hands and sang a rapturous chorus of Auld Lang Syne.
Blogmanay is encouraging social network users to Facebook, tweet, photograph and share their Hogmanay adventures using the Twitter hashtag #blogmanay - the travel bloggers have also been checking out some other beautiful parts of bonny Scotland including Loch Dundreggan and the island of Skye.
A mass collection of highlights from the three day celebration can be found on their website, blogmany.tumblr.com.
