What to expect
For every story about rising unemployment in Australia, comes another one about opportunity from those at the coalface of recruitment. James Nicholson, of recruiter Robert Walters, says jobs still exist, albeit in a more competitive environment.
“Every interview situation is far more competitive – more candidates of better quality are selling harder, and clients are demanding more from them,” he explains.
Growth industries
The buzzwords for 2010 are green jobs. Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd recently announced his government would create a massive 50,000 jobs in the sustainability field – good news for anyone who fancies being part of the fight against climate change.

There are also regional differences in getting a job with greater buoyancy reported in Queensland and Western Australia when it comes to engineering, property, energy and mining.
