A video of orangutans, filmed on an iPhone hidden behind a mirror, is racking up views on Youtube after its creator posted the clip as a DIY animal-filming-at-the-zoo demonstration under the title 'Gorilla lured by iPhone'.

The 'gorillas' - which are actually orangutans - appear fascinated by their reflections in the mirror and the resulting footage includes some amazing close-ups of the animal's faces as they gaze at themselves.

Mark Rober from Pasadena, California came up with the cunning scheme after watching visitors battle to get good video footage of zoo animals.

Drilling a hole in a mirror, Rober taped his iPhone to the back and took his creation to the orangutan enclosure.

"A simple trick to get you some AWESOME zoo footage with only a camera phone," Rober wrote on Youtube.

"If you love or hate (or are ambivalent towards) gorillas you are gonna really like this."

Gorillas, orangutans, whatever. Watch the vid here.
