Do you ever go to another country and think—why does everything look better? The houses and the architecture always seem to look better when it’s not in your country, and there’s actually a reason for it. Read on to find out more.
They’re Built Better
It’s often as simple as the materials and the people building them.
It is well known in Britain that houses sprout within a matter of a few months, relying on bad materials and bad design. What is characteristic of the houses elsewhere, mainly the old ones, is that they use high-quality treated timber, solid tile floors, and strong walls.
European houses seem to favour homes constructed with brick, stone, or concrete rather than wood, as these materials are more durable and help regulate interior temperature better.
In Japan, where the country is often struck by earthquakes, they build homes with lightweight and flexible materials to withstand natural disasters.
Essentially, it’s about not trying to save as much money as possible (hinting at the UK here) and investing in high-quality builds.
They Have Different Interior Styles
The interior styles of homes, especially European and Asian homes, are stunning.
Scandinavian houses, for example, emphasise a minimal functional design that uses plenty of natural light, a neutral colour palette, and warm connotations, rounding out their trademark hygge.
Mediterranean interiors tend to be more earthy tones, bright tile, and natural stone, hence giving a warmer feel to the room. As these regional styles are such distinctive features of the area’s culture, climate, and way of life, it is incredibly difficult to reproduce them anywhere else. Or they go for that bright white that looks incredible in the summer.
Japanese interior designs practise a minimalistic approach to the art that is on display. This art was carefully chosen to create a feeling of calmness within the home. Moroccan houses are rich in intricacy with elaborate Islamic designs, dolls, embroidery, pillows, and many more.
There are so many more we could discuss.
Everything Looks Better in Another Country
Sometimes, it’s just the simple fact that everything looks better in another country. You can’t help but go on holiday and wish you lived there permanently—everything from the food to the architecture seems better.
Still, when it comes to houses, we would argue that other countries do it better. The UK has fallen down a rabbit hole of putting up as many newly built houses in as many places as possible. They’re taking over the traditional architecture that once made the UK look so beautiful. Go to countryside villages and see what we mean.
It’s interesting how much of the charm of a foreign house is derived from the typical materials that are commonplace in a specific region or simply from the vibe they have. With some creativity, you could bring that to your home in the UK with the interior. We’re stuck with the exterior we’re given, but there’s so much you could do with the interior of your home if you invest some money.
