Aussie cricketer Luke Pomersbach has been arrested in India, accused of molesting a woman and beating up her fiance.

The batsman faces up to three years in jail if convicted of the charges - molestation, assault and house-breaking.

Pomersbach is signed to Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore. It is alleged that he groped a 27-year-old American woman during an after-game party at the swish ITC Maurya Hotel.

The cricketer previously narrowly avoided a jail sentence in Australia after assaulting a police officer who was trying to arrest him for drink-driving. It is understood that he has battled with drugs and depression and went to play in the Indian league to get his career back on track.

The woman's fiance is in a stable condition in a New Delhi hospital after he was allegedly punched repeatedly by Pomersbach.

Pomersbach's lawyer, Ajay Bhargava, told AFP: "My client is denying the charges against him.

"We have received interim bail and my client has to appear in court tomorrow."
