A video and song mocking the pick-up techniques of Australia’s less-educated citizens is proving a big hit, not only on the southern hemisphere continent, but also around the world.
Call Me Maybe – an Aussie Blokes Version is a parody of Canadian pop artist Carly Rae Jepson’s hit Call Me Maybe.
Performed by Nova FM’s Fitzy and Wippa, it pokes fun at the attitudes of Aussie guys and their over-inflated sense of themselves and the importance they place on getting intoxicated.
With lines such as, “My weird behaviour, just please embrace it, here’s me number, I’m pretty basic” and “hey, I’ll take me top off, you can look at me ink, you can catch me lining up, at your local Centrelink.”
Aussies, or perhaps people how enjoy taking the piss out of Aussies, have embraced the clip, with it racking up 945,000 in the last month.
Plenty of them took the time to comment on the video, although, typically, some skirted close to racism.
Chuch200 wrote: “HAHAHA SO PROUD TO BE AUSSIE!!! All you people who don't like this video either go back to your own countries or line up at Centrelink you pieces of shit.”
Ninjutsukan was almost ridiculously pleased with the song.
“Proof of a god: this had to be divinely inspired based on the level of fucking awesome,” they wrote.
TaeKwonKeogh was sufficiently moved to create their own lyrics: “Hey I just met you, And this is crazy, But I'm a Dingo, And I ate your baby.”
And ashooles had a message for all the haters out there: “Lol this makes me laugh. I'm Australian and think it's hilarious. Yeah, it's the normal Australian, but that's the point isn't it?”
