Sir Jimmy Savile will be buried at an angle so his body faces out over the sea.
Sir Jimmy Savile’s family yesterday explained how the TV legend wanted his gold coffin to lie in the ground at a 45 degree angle so he could enjoy a water view.
Savile will also be buried holding the beloved military green beret he was given in 1970 for being one of only two civilians to complete the Royal Marine Commando 30-mile speed march across Dartmoor carrying 30lb of kit.
He will be laid to rest in Scarborough next Thursday.
Niece Amanda McKenna said: “We have found a beautiful plot in Woodlands Cemetery, where you can see North Bay, South Bay, Scarborough Castle and even the seaside flat he bought for his mum.
"It will not be difficult for the funeral arrangers to ensure he is buried at an angle. It was his last wish to be buried like this, so he could see the sea.”
Nephew Roger Foster, 66, added: “He will be buried with his Marine green beret and medal, as they meant so much to him. He was so proud of the award. He often spoke of it.”
Sir Jimmy will be buried after a funeral service at St Anne’s Cathedral in Leeds on Wednesday. On the previous day He will lie in state at a hotel for fans and friends to pay their final respects.
The former DJ is to be buried still wearing the Help for Heroes charity bracelet he wore on his wrist when he was found dead in his flat at the weekend, two days short of his 85th birthday.
Sir Jimmy’s family yesterday released pictures of the Leeds flat, including one showing a half- smoked cigar in a lounge ashtray and another of his books from TV’s This Is Your Life. Relatives don’t have the heart to move things.
Amanda said: “We thought we’d leave it untouched for now.”
She told how she had been overwhelmed by the flood of tributes to her “Uncle Jimmy”.
