Tory MP Louise Mensch resigns as MP for Corby citing family reasons

Mench, who is married to Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers manager Peter Mench and who currently spends her time between the UK and her New York base, wrote to the Prime Minister announcing her resignation, saying:



“As you know, I have been struggling for some time to find the best outcome for my family life, and have decided, in order to keep us together, to move to New York.”



Cameron responded by saying that he accepted her resignation “only because I wish to support you in acting in the best interests of your family, which must come first.”


He continued to say he had wished to see Mensch “serve for longer and at a more senior level.”



Mensch, who was a successful novelist before embarking on her political career, came to prominence in the public eye when she clashed with Labour MP Tom Watson during the Levseson enquiry. 



She also spoke out about her use of class A drugs when she was younger when someone attempted to blackmail her over this. She won a great deal of support for her honesty, and discussion of the mental health affects drug use can lead to.
