Boris has used his speech at the Conservative Party Conference to call his PM leader a ‘new broom’ who has excelled at sweeping away the mess that New Labour left behind. He wouldn’t back down on his island airport idea though, it would seem.
Boris has had a good 2012, the ties when he was the bumbling bloke on Have I Got News For You long behind him now and he’s now that bumbling bloke that’s Mayor of London. He used his speech at the Tory Party Conference to cement his reputation as someone many see as a candidate for the Conservative top job in teh future. But while he was full of praise for David Cameron, he said that there was still one thing on which they disagreed as he promised not to build a third runway at Heathrow, instead favouring his Thames island airport plan.
He did though, praise his PM pal Dave, joking that if he was a “blond haired mop”, as Cameron had said of him in The Daily Telegraph, that Cameron was “a broom that is clearing up the mess left by the Labour government.”
He ribbed his old uni friend over his recent appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, in which Cameron said he did not know the English definition of Magna Carta, reportedly playing dumb so as to not appear elitist.
He continued to say that if he could overturn a 17-point difference over his Labour competitor in the London Mayoral elections to remain thecapital’s mayor, then he believes Cameron will do the same and keep the Tories in power at the next general election in 2015.
