Teenage killer Shawn Tyson has been found guilty of murdering British tourists James Cooper, 25, and James Kouzaris, 24, in Florida.

The 17-year-old gunned down the holidaymakers in April 2011 after he tried robbing them, only to discover that they didn't have any cash.

Tyson was charged with two counts of first degree murder and faces jail after being found guilty. However, he will not be given the death penalty because he is not a legal adult.

The families of the murdered men released a statement that said: "Ours is a life sentence, with no chance of parole from a broken heart, and a shattered soul."

Just days before he shot the British tourists to death, Tyson had been released from a prior arrest after being caught shooting at a car.

On the same day, he is said to have threatened a female friend and her niece, pointing a gun at them and saying:  "I'll kill you both."

It is believed that Cooper and Kouzaris ran into Tyson after stumbling into the rundown Newtown neighbourhood after a night of drinking.
