The Firework singer’s awards included Favourite Female Artist, but she had pulled out following her break up with Russell Brand.
Perry announced on Twitter earlier this week: “Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the Peoples Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!”
She was nominated for seven awards at the ceremony, which was going to be her first job since Brand filed for divorce.
Brand had originally been invited to the awards do too, but was later uninvited when the split was announced.
But the red carpet was still looking busy, with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Bell, Kelly Osbourne, Demi Lovato, Vanessa Hudgens and Miley Cyrus showing up.
If Kate had been there, she would have also been able to pick up awards for Song of the Year, Music Video, Tour Headliner and TV Guest Star for her appearance on How I Met Your Mother.
Perry has spoken out about her split with Brand after 14 months of marriage on Twitter, saying: “I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again.”
She added: “Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that no-one speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.”
