Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport evacuated its two main international terminals as a bomb squad and police stormed the scene.
The terminals reopened four hours later and police said the man – who was arrested (pictured) – posed no threat to the public.
The BBC reported that Dutch border police were investigating whether the suspect had explosives in his luggage.
Although the airport had reopened, delays were expected, and the airport’s website showed 16 cancellations to inbound flights and 11 to departures at 4pm today.
A Schiphol spokesman said: “Things are not back to normal yet. The evacuation is over and we are busy getting operations back on track but there will be some delays and cancellations for the rest of the day.”
