Now the phrase is synonomous with the iPhone to the point the game has become its most popular app/

The much-loved game, seen on a Tube near you, topped the chart for paid-for iPhone apps purchased from Apple in 2011.

And to boster its posiiton, two of its spin-offs – Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio – also made it into the top 10.

The game has players catapulting round red birds at rickety structures in order to defeat their enemies – a bunch of green pigs.

Facebook topped the free app downloads on the iPhone, while Twitter, Skype and eBay all made it into the top 10.
