Ben Stiller is slated to star in a remake of kiddy TV fave Rentaghost.

The 45 year old Hollywood heavyweight will reportedly take the place of stand up comic turned actor Russell Brand in the lead role, Deadline.com reports.

The movie which would see Stiller reunited with the writing team behind the Night at the Museum films, Tom Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, is to be based on the 1970s British children’s TV show about a temp agency with ghosts for hire.

It is thought that the Russell Brand version was meant to stick fairly closely to the original show but Stiller will reportedly play the role of a US consultant sent to the UK to give the failing Rentaghost firm a kick up the ass.

The much loved British series ran for nine seasons between 1976 and 1984 on BBC1.

Brand is believed to have parted ways with the project after Studio Fox snapped up the film.

Meanwhile, Stiller hinted on Saturday Night Live that a sequel to Zoolander could be in the pipeline.

Is that really necessary Ben? You can have too much of a good thing, you know (we’re just thinking of all thoses Fockers sequels!)
