Beyonce, 30, gave birth by planned caesarian section on Saturday night in a private wing of the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. The birth was kept top secret and Beyonce checked in using the name ‘Ingrid Jackson’.

The couple had rented out an entire fourth floor of the hospital and entrances were watched by private guards. If you’re hoping to see a leaked picture of Blue Ivy, don’t hold your breath as hospital staff were required to hand in their mobile phones while security cameras were covered as Beyonce checked in to have her baby.

“You’d think it was first lady Michelle Obama in there having a baby,” a hospital worker was reported as saying.

Apparently, Beyonce and Jay-Z have yet to sell their baby photos, but several US magazines have already offered big-money for exclusive rights to the photos. It has been suggested that the couple may instead choose to give away the pictures for free in exchange for a high-profile cover as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes did for Vanity Fair.

After the birth was announced, some confusion arose around the baby’s name, with initial reports suggesting she was called Ivy Blue.

Stepping in to clear up the rumours, Beyonce’s friend Gwyneth Paltrow took to Twitter saying:

“Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already.” And: “It’s Blue Ivy Carter!”

The singer’s sister, Solange Knowles, referred to the name mix-up, tweeting: “Information that goes through the telephone, always gets delivered wrong.”

Solange also tweeted the verdict: “The most beautiful girl in the world”.

Rihanna tweeted to confirm her special status in Blue Ivy’s life, writing: “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.”

The baby’s name has given some unexpected publicity to a Boston event planning company also called Blue Ivy. The company’s owner told website TMZ they have been getting phone calls, texts and Facebook posts from friends ever since the baby’s name was announced.

On Twitter, lurid suggestions about the name are rife as imaginative users declare: “Eulb Yvi is Latin for Lucifer’s daughter.”

The suggestion is that “Ivy Blue” backwards is “Eulb Yvi,” and means “Lucifer’s daughter” in Latin.

Another proposal is that Blue stands for “Born Living Under Evil” and that Ivy stands for “Illuminati’s Very Youngest.”
