The Panics (Publica Records)
With a name like The Panics you expect abrasive garage music, but actually the Perth quintet’s stock in trade is grand, sweeping string arrangements and an English Lit approach to lyrics.
On listening to the wonderful, swirling Get Us Home and the rousing, horn-assisted Don’t Fight It from their second album Cruel Guards it’s little wonder they caught the ear of Factory label founder Tony Wilson shortly before he died. Lovely.
