Speaking at a debate about the teaching of British history in schools, Starkey stunned audiences by launching an attack on Salmond, saying: “If you think about it, Alex Salmond is like a Caledonian Hitler, although some would say that Hitler was more democratically elected.
“[For him] the English, like the Jews, are everywhere.”
It is far from the first time that Starkey has found himself in hot water over comments he has made. When discussing the London riots of last year, he said that “the whites had become blacks.”
Starkey had been debating how British history is taught in schools, stating that it has an important role in defining national identity.
