The Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court heard testimony from a forensic analyst involved in alcohol blood testing, during Pretoria High Court Judge Nkola Motata’s drunken driving trial on Monday.

Logan Govender – a former chief forensic analyst at the forensic chemistry lab at Johannesburg’s health department – testified that a blood sample received by the laboratory on January 12, 2007 was analysed by him on March 9, 2007.

He said the sample he analysed showed the concentration of alcohol in the blood as 0.2 grams per 100 millilitres. The legal limit is 0.05. He testified that the sample was kept in a locked trunk and was sealed until it underwent testing by him.

Before Govender was able to continue testifying on the procedures he used to analyse the blood sample, court was adjourned.

This came after the defence raised queries about whether they had full possession of all documentation related to the witness.
