OVERVIEW Right on Reykjavik’s main square (and remember that we mean ‘main’ by Icelandic standards, so read: tiny, quiet patch), Hotel Borg is a stylish four-star that has apparently only failed to reach the heady heights of five stars because it lacks a spa. And we can believe it, going by its monochrome marble elegance.
WOW FACTOR Rooms are large and feel understatedly classy, the black-and-white theme continuing with the decor. Meanwhile, under-marble-floor heating ensures a cosy stay. A flat-screen TV and deliciously deep bath are on hand if you fancy a quiet night in. At breakfast, be sure to try the smoked salmon – they know how to smoke their fish in this country, and it’s a far fresher, less oily affair than what you tend to pick up here.
BILL PLEASE Staying at Hotel Borg independently isn’t cheap, with rooms starting at about £140pn. However, easyJet Holidays is offering two-night stays, with flights, from about £200. See holidays.easyjet.com for more.
