Why it works?

“How can you not love France?” Joanne enthuses. It’s hard to argue, when sights like this cathedral (St Nazaire) presiding over the river pop up in random towns. In Joanne’s case, it was in Béziers, Languedoc, which she happened upon while exploring Lagos to Nice by train.

“I found myself in this quaint little town, bordered on three sides by the Orb river and a canal, with beautiful houses, churches and bridges,” she says. No wonder Joanna “takes my camera everywhere”.

Why it works

It’s a challenge to find a bad view from any of the bridges of Venice, but Christine found an especially striking one here, with the gold of the mask in unison with the lights on the edges of the canal during Carnival.

“It was taken on the famous Ponte de Rialto,” Christine tells us. “It was a cool night and everyone was wearing their Carnival mask and enjoying life. It’s an amazing feeling to hide your identity for the day. Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.”
