The shamed DJ and TV host is now the subject of an official inquiry after a string of rape and sex abuse allegations, dating back as far as the 60s, were made against him.
Savile was, in fact, presented with the rumours of his alleged abuse of young girls during a Newstalk 106-108FM interview in 2007, Sky News is reporting.
The claims had originally been broadcast in the documentary When Louis Met: Jimmy Savile with Louis Theroux. When Savile was asked about the sex abuse rumours however, he said:
“What is the point of responding to something if it’s not true.
“If anybody says things like that there’s no problem because all you can expect from a pig is a grunt.”
The interview has come to light as new allegations emerge that Savile abused children at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
A former patient called Laura told BBC Radio 5 live that nurses in the hospital had warned her about Savile’s visits, suggesting she pretend to be asleep to avoid his attention.
“There was chatter and miserable faces about the fact that Jimmy Savile was due to do what they called his particular ward round that day, and they were talking to themselves about which one would be, as they put it, ‘the chosen one’ to go off with him to his little room,” she said.
“I just remember the nurse tucking me in and saying, ‘The best thing you can do is stay in bed and don’t ask to be put in a wheelchair today and pretend to be asleep’.”
Police are now investigating 120 separate lines of inquiry over allegation of sexual abuse by Savile. It is thought there could be at least 30 victims.
Meanwhile Freddie Starr, who has been accused of groping an underage girl in Savile’s dressing room, has called his one-time friend “despicable”.
Starr appeared on ITV’s This Morning to deny the claim.
