The scene Since 2007, this ungodly popular drinking hole, atop a carpark just off Peckham’s busy Rye Lane, has gone from pop-up to annual institution. Small art installations line the route to the roof, the view from which is bordering on magical.
A red canopy covers about a dozen tables and the bar area, but there is plenty of concrete for patrons to spill out across, weather permitting. The crowd is a mix of catalogue models, cyclists and twee primary school teacher types.
The grub Frank’s rotating menu offers fittingly rustic fare for reasonable prices. Think English fusion tapas, and then stop being so judgemental.
Behind the bar Frank’s Cafe and Campari Bar is, cunningly, pretty big on campari; there’s a plethora of campari cocktails from the mysterious Red Russia to campari classics such as the Americano.
There’s also non-campari cocktails, and draught and bottled lagers and cider.
Bill please Cocktails and pint from £4; bottled beer from £3.50; wine from £3.20 per glass, £16 per bottle.
Verdict Frank’s longevity is breeding a sense of comfort it has lacked before.
