Australia coach Mick Malthouse will wait until match-day before revealing who will miss out on selection in Friday night’s International Rules clash with Ireland.

Australia have named an expanded 10-man bench from which one player will be cut on Friday for the Subiaco clash.

Those in the mix for the selection chop are Matthew Boyd, Leigh Montagna, Jared Brennan, Kade Simpson, Dale Thomas, Max Rooke, Nathan Foley, Roger Hayden, Daniel Wells and Marc Murphy.

Malthouse said the unlucky player to be cut on Friday would be a definite starter for the second leg in Melbourne.

Nathan Bock has been given the nod in goal ahead of Michael Firrito.

Malthouse said he was confident the violence-marred series of 2006 had been consigned to history.

“It is a tough game, it will be played to be won but it will be played within the rules,” Malthouse said.

“When people cross the white line there’s a little demon that seems to spring out and change things.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re very alert to that and suppress it, and make sure the player group are on the same page.

“I’m very comfortable with the side we’ve picked.

“They’ve been handpicked because we believe they’re not only good players and good people, but they uphold the sporting spirit which includes sportsmanship.”
