The Hindus consider Gangasagar in West Bengal as one of the holiest pilgrimmages…this small island is visited by a million Indians in every ‘Makarsnkranti'(14-15 Jan). Women such as these come from remotest of villages where the ‘Purdah’ still prevails and words like emancipation or empowerment of women have never been heard. The shop is small and the food probably stale, but this is their once-in-a-life chance to see the great wide world, and they have a blast.
