A man fatally stabbed in Invercargill early today has been named by police as Darnell Glen Leslie.
Senior Sergeant Olaf Jensen said the 31-year-old Invercargill resident was found mortally wounded when police were called to an address in Charles Street, in the north of the city, about 1am.
Leslie was taken to Southland Hospital where he died a short time later.
Jensen said a 26-year-old man, suffering injuries, was found at the address and taken to hospital.
About 20 police investigators, including ESR staff, were working on the inquiry and the Charles Street house had been cordoned off while a scene examination was carried out.
Jensen highlighted the excellent work of police and St John staff who responded to the emergency call.
They had been able to immediately remove Leslie from the scene and take him to hospital.
“The armed offenders squad was then used to secure the address and located the 26-year-old male inside the address suffering from injuries that required hospitalisation,” Jensen said.
“His injuries are not life-threatening and the cause of which will form part of the investigation.”
