An article about the new documentary show Royal Marines: Mission Afghanistan, which is intended to give an insight in to life in the military,  features a picture of 42 Commando, with one of the men actually going commando. The prank though went unnoticed by staff at the magazine until a reader wrote in pointing out the commando’s ‘member’ which was on full display.

The reader said: “I know that British soldiers serving in Afghanistan are well equipped, but seeing the roll call of Royal Marines gives the expression a whole new meaning.”

The magazine quickly moved and issued an apology on their website with a censored version of the photo.

A Radio Times spokeswoman said of the offending ‘article’: “ The unnamed marine is, like the rest of his unit, posing for the photograph dressed only in shorts.

“What we took to be the marine’s finger proved, on closer inspection, to be another part of his anatomy.”

Radio Times editor Ben Preston said: “We apologise for any upset caused to readers by the rogue member of 42 Commando.”
