Pub gardens are like Ghostbusters, or cheese and pineapple sticks – everyone likes them. So, with that in mind, here’s our guide to our top three places to enjoy a beer and top up our tans.
The Water Poet: 9-11 Folgate Street, Spitalfields, London E1 6BX
As well as rooms seemingly appearing from all directions, this Spitalfields boozer has a spacious outdoor area, which proves an oasis of sunny calm by furious Liverpool Street. The beer garden offers a barbeque during warmer months and is available every day from midday. There are plenty of tables and chairs on the decking, and a sheltered, heated area is available for the cooler months for those that enjoy a cheeky ciggie. Plus, it’s not small – it can accommodate around 100 people outside and 50 under cover, with area reservations available. Private areas can be reserved with BBQ and Hog Roast parties welcome.
93 Feet East: The Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane London E1
This Brick Lane live music venue has a cobbled outdoor terrace which hosts barbecues and a throngs of hipsters who pack in for summer boozing and day-long soaking up of sunshine. The heated outdoor seating area has a retractable roof, which makes it the perfect place to sit in all seasons. Caution – you may find yourself wasting your entire Sunday here…
Strongroom Bar and Kitchen: 120-124 Curtain Rd, London, EC2A 3SQ
You’ll find a top courtyard in this Curtain Road boozer, with a profusion of greenery, and streams of sunlight, making it perfect for lazy weekends. Worth a stop. The courtyard has been used for the Strongroom Beer Festival, a mod’s scooter rally and as a location for, er, a Rizzle Kicks video.
