The cyclist lead the police on a 60mph chase by employing a technique known as drafting, which involves tucking in behind another vehicle to reduce drag.

The police spotted the cyclist as he tore out from behind a white van and overtook it. Despite the police sirens though the cyclist attempted to get away and repeated the same trick later on down the road before coming to a halt at roadworks where he was apprehended.

Drafting is used in racing sports such as cycling, driving and even skating, with racers tucking in behind other competitors or team mates to conserve energy which then allows them to break away and overtake and reach greater speeds.
