The famous Wimbledon queue has seen it all over the years, from overnight campers and fancy dress to fans travelling across the world in the hope of securing a ticket. Now, there’s something new to add to the list – complimentary tennis-inspired haircuts.

In a playful nod to its Fresh Cut fruit range, Del Monte teamed up with celebrity hairstylist Tobias Bell, better known as That Hair Guy to his one million-plus social media followers, to serve up “Fresh Cuts” of a different kind, surprising queue-goers with trims inspired by some of the sport’s most unforgettable hairstyles.

Fans could choose from Pat Cash’s feathered mullet, Anna Kournikova’s signature plait, Björn Borg’s flowing locks or, for those feeling particularly brave, a playful tennis ball buzz cut.

“Tennis has produced some of the most recognisable hairstyles in sport, and it’s been brilliant to partner with Del Monte to bring them back to life for fans joining the queue”, said Bell.

It comes as new research reveals just how far Brits are prepared to go for the chance to experience one of the country’s biggest sporting events. More than three quarters (78%) said they would happily queue for up to 12 hours for the chance to secure Centre Court tickets, while one in five (20%) admitted they would even change their hairstyle to attend. Almost one in five (18%) confessed they’d pull a sickie from work if it meant getting tickets.

The survey also found that tennis stars continue to shape British style, with almost a third (29%) saying they’ve taken inspiration from a player at some point. Björn Borg’s trademark headband and flowing locks were voted Britain’s most iconic tennis hairstyle, followed by John McEnroe’s signature curls, Serena Williams’ gem-adorned hairstyles, Roger Federer’s ponytail and Pat Cash’s feathered mullet.

Thierry Montange, Marketing Director UK at Del Monte, said: “At Del Monte, freshness is at the heart of everything we do, so bringing ‘Fresh Cuts’ to tennis fans felt like the perfect way to put a playful twist on one of the country’s most iconic summer traditions.”

Whether you’re hoping to secure a last-minute ticket or simply soak up the atmosphere around Wimbledon, it proves that one of London’s best-loved summer traditions can still serve up a few surprises.
