It’s one of the capital’s oldest traditions, dating back to 1535, serving as an inauguration of London’s new lord mayor.
It used to be a more formal affair but, these days, it combines peculiarly British forms of pageantry with a carnival atmosphere and a parade that snakes through the City, before culminating in a spectacular fireworks display. You can get in amongst it or find a vantage point to watch from afar.
