Various Artists (Sony)
The subtitle is preposterous, of course, with most of 2008’s best music predictably absent from this dreary and conservative 40-track set.
The female-heavy first disc offers a survey of the year’s pop hits, from the good (Estelle, Adele) to the bad (Madonna, Duffy) to the downright ugly (Scouting For Girls).
The blokier disc two, meanwhile, reads like Q magazine’s albums of the year list (The Verve, Elbow).
