Next time you're gathering quirkily-named flat pack furniture and cheap cutlery whilst scoffing meatballs at Ikea you'll be pleased to know you'll also be able to pick up a new telly.

Electronics shops will be quaking in their boots - the worldwide furniture giant is making a move into the TV market.

The Uppleva telly will come integrated into a piece of wall mountable furniture which aims to hide all the clutter of wires for a minimal modern look.

The set will be manufactured by TCL Multimedia in China and will be a high definition LED with a built in Blu-ray/DVD player.

The set also comes with rather cool wireless speakers to place around your room, and comes in various sizes from 24 to 42 inches.

Ylva Magnusson of Ikea told the Washington Post “We came up with this because we found that people want to get rid of the cables and they don’t want those mountains of remote controls either.”

The complete unit will cost around US$950 (£600)
