London diary: Scotch Egg Challenge at The Ship in Wandsworth

The Scotch egg – a British cuisine triumph (a statement you won’t hear often in global culinary circles) – is celebrated with this competition to crown the finest egg.
Chef-boffin Heston Blumenthal’s The Hinds Head Pub, Hammersmith’s Thatched House and egg street food legend Egg Boss will compete among 20 entrants to impress celeb judges, including Scotch egg inventors Fortnum & Mason.
Duck, goose, quail and beetroot-infused offerings, with kangaroo even making it on the ingredients list, will be among the samples.
