The Scene: A slice of sunshine in scrappy Shoreditch, Floripa’s bright yellow and green walls, parrot paintings, tumbling plants and flower-garland chandeliers transport the punter to a Brazilian beach bar.

Infusing this heady atmosphere are Latin American beats, strong liquor and, as the night wears on, muchos dancing on tables. There are events every night, from live music to band-backed karaoke.

The grub: The menu boasts that it blends English pop with Brazilian bossa, but we’re happy to report a more authentic flavour to the small plates, salads and meat-centric mains than you might expect from fusion cuisine. The beef ribs cooked in Brazilian black beer are a sweet and smoky standout.

Behind the bar: Forget caipirinhas – the Brazilian blends here are far more inventive. The sizeable cocktail menu takes South American staples (the likes of cachaça, lime, mango) and twists them into drinks fit for the trendiest London bar (think cucumber and absinthe foam accents). We loved the Jumping Devil – Horny Salto Cachaça, ginger ale, cassis – for being refreshingly fruity and zingily gingery all at the same time. Similarly, the Batida de Salto brought a new flavour with each sip.

Bill please: Cocktails from £7.50; glasses of wine from £5; starters and salads from £4; mains from £6.50 (without sides); sides from £3.
Verdict: Pack your Havaianas – it’s a tropical party paradise. LAURA CHUBB
