A Christmas lights display in Churchlands, Perth soundtracked by Psy’s Gangnam Style has been switched off because too many people were coming to see it causing a health and safety concern in the small residential street.
Kim Illman put together the display, which uses 1,000 bulbs, 2,000 light channels and took 200 hours to set up, but has had to turn the stunning lights off as too many people have come to witness it, clogging up the street to the displeasure of many local residents.
“Experience shows that those numbers build exponentially as we get closer to Christmas,” Illman said of the overwhelming popularity his display enjoyed, briefly.
“The prospect of such large numbers in a very small street over a number of weeks is simply unmanageable. There is also a very real safety risk.”
He promises to be back next year though in a new location where there is plenty of room for parking.
