It was said that “If sake is an acquired taste, then the world is divided into two kinds of people: those who have taste and those yet to acquire it!”

If you enjoy sake, clear your diaries and grab a ticket for The Joy of Sake – a one night only celebration of sake at the Barbican Centre on 28 September 2018. Tickets are £75 (plus booking fee) and include unlimited sake tastings and a dish from every one of the 14 restaurants providing food.

In London for the first time, this is the largest sake-tasting outside Japan which has grown from 124 sakes in 2001 to 478 today. Every year, The Joy of Sake travels around the world, presenting hundreds of sakes, many not otherwise available outside Japan. These include premium Daiginjo sakes, made from the inner core of the rice grain.

As well as sake, you will have the chance to sample up to 14 plates of food from top London restaurants including The Frog by Adam Handling and Sushisamba. Enjoy dishes such seared salmon with lime dressing and chocolate tofu mousse with pickled cherries. There will even be a sake inspired cheese board from La Fromagerie!

Sake still remains a bit of a mystery in the UK but things are changing. Kanpai in Peckham is the first and only sake distillery in the UK and now have a range of sakes on sale in shops and restaurants. They also do tours of their rather special brewery. Find out more at

We love a good deal at TNT so we got our calculators out to work out how much money we are going to save by going.

Half a bottle of quality sake (we encourage responsible drinking!) - £35

Normal restaurant price of £10 a dish from every one of the 14 restaurant at the show  - £140 = £175. Therefore by going to the Joy of Sake, you are potentially saving a whopping £100 so grab your friends and buy a ticket for what is set to be an unforgettable night.
