London 2012: Aussie Paralympians notch nine medals on opening day of the Games

Australian Paralympians kicked off the London 2012 Games with an impressive medal haul on the first day, notching up nine medals in total (three gold, three silver andthree bronze) to leave them second in the overall medals table behind China.
Kieran Modra completed a third straight win securing gold in the 4000m pursuit title, with Susan Powell winning in the C4 pursuit final too.
Simone Kennedy won silver in the C1-3 pursuit and Alexandra Green bronze in the C4 pursuit, as well, with Bryce Lindores and Sean Finning securing silver, too.
Medals were not restricted to the velodrome though.
In the pool, Jacqueline Freney won the S7 100m backstroke gold, with Matthew Cowdrey notching up silver in the S9 100m butterfly, one of his weaker events, and Rick Pendleton picking up bronze in the SM10 200m medley.
Natalie Smith also won bronze in the 10m Air Rifle – standing, and was the first to win a medal for Australia this year.
